Volunteer Opportunities
The best perscription for our residents is a friendly visit from a volunteer who is content to read, assist with letter writing, or just simply chit chat. A volunteer can be a breath of fresh air for residents especially when they spend time together outside of their rooms, like in a common area, activity room, or courtyard. There are many volunteer possibilities in our facility in all sorts of areas:
-
Beauty Shop: Assist beauticians with roller removal or comb outs. Sweep floor, gather towels, and help transport residents to and from their hair appointments.
-
Occupational / Physical Therapy Transportation : Assist therapists by serving as an extra set of eyes and hands. Encourage residents in their rehabilitation. Help transport residents to and from their appointments.
-
Therapeutic Recreation : Assist with group activites including Arts n` Crafts, Bingo, Parties and Entertainment, or just simply help transport residents to and from programs. Being involved with activities also gives you time to make relationships with our patients, something all of them enjoy.
-
Window Panes : Window Panes Gift Shop is the in house shop for all residents, family members, and employees carrying a variety of items and housing our now daily " Goody Corner" . Main Duties in Window Panes include operating the cash register, tidying shelves and frontage, stocking, and creating your own displays.
-
Pet Therapy : One of our most popular programs among our residents ! Bring in your dog, cat, ferret, any animal that is up to date on rountine shots and has been vaccinated for rabies, and take them for a visit through our floors. Our residnts love to learn about animals and makeconnections with them, some who are here, miss their pets greatly and you make their day in a simple 10 minute visit. All pets MUST have all shots, be clean, and leash trained (if applicable).
-
Special Events Escort : Assist residents during outings, such as shopping trips to Walmart or other stores, Ice Cream Outings, Picnics, and other assorted field trips.
-
Friendly Visits : Become a companion to those in Heritage. If you like to chit chat and find out about others and their perspectives this is a great way to do so. Our residents love to share stories about themselves and others during simplier times. You can also be a great support for our residents during times of loneliness, sadness, frustration, despair, or when they just need someone to talk to.
-
Do a residents nails : Our residents love to get their nails done but can't do them alone or venture out for someone else to do them. You could be that person and make our residnets feel better about themselves.
-
Sewing or Knitting for Residents : Sew walker and wheel chair bags, knit mittens, scarves, and hats or crochet lap blankets in YOUR HOME, at YOUR CONVENIENCE ! All residents appreciate any handmade article, and they are put to good use.
-
Clerical Support : Assist staff with office duties. Answer phones, copy, file, assemble information packets, or help out with other department needs.
